Wilderness First Aid Training

Wilderness areas and remote environments may prevent immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response. That's why Wilderness First Aid training is required for high adventure treks, including those at Philmont Scout Reservation. With Wilderness First Aid training, you'll learn how to respond to emergencies and care for common injuries in areas where professional responders may be hours or days away.

We are offering ECSI's 16-hour WFA course in a hybrid format. The cognitive portion of the course is delivered online, from the comfort of your home, and requires approximately 8 hours . Individuals will then be able to complete a physical skills check on-site to ensure comprehension of the material during an 8-hour, in-person session at Camp Oklawaha on May 25th from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

CPR/AED is not included in the WFA curriculum and is a prerequisite.
(There will be a training at Camp Oklawaha on May 18th, 2024.)

To successfully complete the course, you must:

  • Successfully complete the online session.
  • Attend and participate in the in-person session.
  • Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during skill practices and assessment scenarios.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
  • Successfully complete all assessment scenarios.
