Become a Cub Scout Rangemaster! In this training, you will learn how to run a safe and fun Cub Scout Shooting Sports program at District and Council events. Topics will include learning to set up BSA approved BB Gun, Archery, and Sling Shot ranges; range commands; and how to help cub scouts with shooting sports.

Upon completion you will receive your Training Certification Card. All persons running a BB Gun, Slingshot or Archery Range at a District or Council run Cub Scout events as a Rangemaster MUST have this training. By completing this training, you will become a vital part of the success of the Gulf Stream Council Cub Scout Shooting Sports Program! You must agree to staff at least one event in the next 12 months and may be contacted regarding other Cub Scout Rangemaster opportunities.

This training is valid for two years. Cub Scout BB Gun, Slingshot, and Archery Programs may NOT be run/used outside of Council or District pre-approved and organized events or activities and may not be run at the Pack level.

You will need to bring with you:

  • Digital or printed copy of the current Shooting Sports Manual: https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/ShootingSportsManual.pdf
    • Read the following sections prior to your arrival:
      • Section V chapter 9 & 10
      • Page 171
      • Appendices 20
      • Pages 253 – 295
    • Note that cellular service can be sporadic at camp Oklawaha. Do not rely on cell phone reception to access a copy of the Shooting Sports Manual.
  • Water Bottle
  • Wear Closed Toed Shoes
  • Lunch
  • Current YPT Certificate

You will be outdoors for a significant period of time, mostly in shade.

  • All registrations are subject to approval by the Course Instructor prior to final acceptance to attend. All registrants will be notified if accepted within a week of registering.
  • NO WALK INS will be permitted - Registration CLOSES on May 22nd, or once FULL
  • Only properly pre-registered participants may attend this training.
  • Course preference will be given to those working at Gulf Stream Council and District events in the next six months.
  • Adult leader Training Only - no guests or youth may be brought.
  • Classes taught by certified Cub Scout Shooting Sports Rangemaster Instructor
  • Class size will be limited to 12 Registered Adult Leaders-
