Mike Machek Spirit of Scouting Award

Mike Machek served on district, council, regional and national committees for the positive benefit of Scouting, At the same time he continued to serve as Scoutmaster because he wanted to stay focused on the aims and methods of the Scouting Program. He was liked by his fellow scouters, always participated in district and council events, was very supportive of the professional staff, and represented the Scouting Program in a professional manner in all of his dealings. He lived the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life and was an inspiration to literally thousands of Scouts in his troops and fellow Scouters with whom he came in contact. He was an Eagle Scout, and was awarded both the Silver Beaver and the Silver Antelope awards.  He is the namesake of the 5-mile trail which surrounds Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation.  Of all his awards and tributes, he always felt that the title of “Scoutmaster” was the highest.

This award is presented annually by the Gulf Stream Council to recognize a Scouter who best exemplifies the Scouting Spirit that late Mike Machek had in his service to Scouting.
