Jamboree on The Air (JOTA) 2023 Camporee

Gulf Stream Council is hosting a Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) Camporee. This International Jamboree is held annually on the 3rd weekend of October and uses communication technology to connect Scouts from around the world. Be a part of the world’s largest amateur radio scouting event that promotes friendship and global citizenship. Attending JOTA will satisfy requirement 7E of the Citizenship in The World Merit Badge. Activities include learning and using amateur radios (ham radios), lashing together a radio antenna tower, radio fox hunt (find the hidden transmitter), tour the Martin County Sheriff Office Mobile Incident Command Unit, contests, council fire, meet members from local amateur radio clubs, learn about how to become a license amateur radio operator, see demonstration of technology, get help programming your radio, and more. The registration fee includes a weekend of camping, activities, JOTA patch, and meals will be served out of the dining hall on Saturday and a Sunday morning continental breakfast. If your troop is hungry on Friday night visit the NYLT fundraisers Grill for dinner. The menu includes Hotdogs, Burgers, Pull Pork, Chips, Soda, Water, and more. The NYLT grill is cash only. Enjoy a great weekend of camping.
Scouts can sign up for only ONE Merit Badges class. The MB class will be 4 hours block either in the morning or afternoon. Classes are limited to ten scouts. Merit Badges offer are Radio, Signs Signals and Codes, Electricity, Electronic, Digital Technology, Inventing, Collection, Composite Material, Citizenship in the World, Scouting Heritage, Engineering, Public Speaking, Robotics, Energy, Exploration, Nuclear Science. Some Merit Badge will have extra fees for the cost of the kits. Some merit badge will have prerequisites, see the list in the leader guide. When not in a merit badge class Scouts should get on the radios and participate in activities. While Merit badges classes are offer at JOTA, this is not SAW. This weekend is all about HAM Radios and communicating with Scouts from around the World.
New this year a FCC License Exam session will be offer on Sunday morning after Scout Own Service. Two forms of ID will be needed for the exam. Scouts wanting to take and pass the FCC exam should get Gordon West 2022-2026 Technician Class Exam Book and start studying. There are several great books and online videos that can be used to help study for the FCC Exams. There is list of exam study guides in leader guide.
There will be NO day campers for Scouts. There will be NO provisional campers this year so sign up and attending as unit.
Webelos and AOL program include Science Everywhere Nova Award Tech Talk and build and launch water bottle rockets. No provisional camping option for Cub Scouts.
